Last Dance
The story focuses primarily on the younger brother of the governor's chief of staff, Rick Hayes (Rob Morrow). He arrives in the state capitol and gets a make-work job in the Clemency Office. He finds out that a female inmate was betrayed by an appalling, court-appointed defense lawyer who willfully declined to point out that she was drug-crazed when she did the killings, she's been through 12 years of sham parole hearings. He throws himself into the case, launching a crusade to save the woman convicted of the double murders from being executed. Sharon Stone plays Cindy Liggett, a death row inmate whose time has come. She gives a magnificent performance as the condemned prisoner facing imminent execution in this severely demanding role. In shapeless prison garb and bland makeup, Stone certainly looks the role of a hardened female con. As the story progresses, she gets to show the character's more tender side. This drama directed by Bruce Beresford offers a fascinating, insightful look into the life of a person on death row. Rob Morrow is excellent, as well, in this multidimensional drama. Other good actors also gracing the cast list are Chicago Hope's Jayne Brook, Randy Quaid, Peter Gallagher, Jack Thompson and Charles S. Dutton who appears unbilled.
